LSCC News

Christian Gobrecht gravesite marker project Christian Gobrecht's gravesite was unceremonially moved in the mid-1950s from Philadelphia's old Monument Cemetery to the Lawnview Cemetery in Rockledge PA when Lehigh University desired to acquire the land occupied by Monument Cemetery. In the move, Gobrecht's grave marker was lost, and he and his family were reburied in the Broadlawn part of the cemetery, with a simple marker "GOBRECHT" placed in the lawn. The LSCC is proposing to replace this uninspired marker (see image left) with something more appropriate for the 3rd Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. Click here or on the image at left for more information on Christian Gobrecht, including his life, his work, and his final resting place(s).

Volunteering to start the club will be SHS President Dennis Fortier and SHS Vice President Dr. Verne Pitman. Membership in the SHS is earned not granted.
