The
Liberty Seated Collectors Club is a group of
over six hundred collectors and dealers dedicated to the study
and attribution of the American silver Liberty Seated coinage
of the 19th century. The Gobrecht Journal is the official
publication of the club and is published three times each year.
Issues are 52 pages in length and are distributed to club members
in March, July, and November. Sample articles from the Gobrecht
Journal are available via the "Gobrecht
Journal - Facts and Online Articles" link above. Club dues
are $20 per year, payable to the Secretary-Treasurer.
Joining the LSCC is easy and the $20
annual fee is the best value in numismatics. Simply download
and print the LSCC
brochure and follow application instructions.
The LSCC also issues an electronic email based publication, the
E-Gobrecht, which is published monthly to members and
also distributed to interested non-members at no cost. To receive
the E-Gobrecht, send an email to the E-Gobrecht
editor
requesting to be added to the distribution list.
The Gobrecht Journal is research orientated and contains
articles on all denominations of Liberty Seated coinage, from
the half dime to the Trade dollar. The E-Gobrecht contains
information of a more timely nature, such as recent auction sales,
LSCC regional meeting announcements and exhibits and feature articles
on new variety discoveries. Ads for the Gobrecht Journal are
invited; contact the Gobrecht
Journal editor
for further information. For ads in the E-Gobrecht, contact
the E-Gobrecht
editor.
Comments or feedback concerning the LSCC website can be addressed to LSCC webmaster.

November 12 Boston Bay Show Wrapup!
Following are images from Dennis Fortier (Northeast Regional Director) and John Frost (BCCS) club information tables at the Boston Bay State Show.
Dennis is just back from the Bay State show and file this brief report. A detailed Bay State show summary will be published in the December E-Gobrecht.
As always, any time spent with John Frost is not only a blast but educational and interesting. John always has something unusual for people to see, great stories to tell, and expert knowledge to pass along. Just like the Whitman Philadelphia show, we shared a table with the Barber Coin Collectors Society who John represented. This was the last Bay State show in Boston and I am happy to report that the Bay State show will go on at a new location in Marlborough, MA just off highway 495. The next show is planned for November 9-10, 2012, so mark your calendars.
Floor traffic was somewhat light. The economy still drags on, but depending on the dealer and pricing flexibility, some reported a good show and others not so good. Seated material was scarce without the major Seated dealers in attendance. At the regional meeting, I highlighted Randy Wiley’s two articles in GJ #’s 94 and 97 on the 1861-O Liberty Seated Half Dollar, U.S., Louisiana, and Confederacy. I’ve recently acquired the rare 1Aa die marriage used it as an introduction to the knowledge available to LSCC members. I also displayed three leather bound editions of Bill Bugert’s Register of Liberty Seated Half Dollars Volumes I, II, and III.. John exhibited Seated items including a rare Twenty Cent Pattern, and a Carson City Trade Dollar with numerous chop marks..

Contemporary Counterfeit Archives Update
The archives are undergoing a significant update with specimens from the Brian Greer collection. In particular, the quarter and half dollar sections of the archives are populated with a broad array of handcut die and transfer die contemporary counterfeits. Some specimens are in high grade and feature the die cutting artistry of the mid 1800s. Below is AU example of handcut dies for 1844 counterfeit on unknown dark metal. You are invited to visit the Archives and enjoy this niche area of United States numismatics.

July 29-30 Manchester NH Coin Expo Displays and Regional Meeting
Manchester Regional meeting results were well beyond expectations!

At
the July 29-30 Manchester NH Coin Expo, the Barber Coin Collectors
Society and the Liberty Seated Collectors Club jointly featured
important coinage displays promoting the two clubs and hosted
a combined regional meeting. The interest level from New England
area collectors was well beyond expectations as over 20 people
attended the Friday regional meeting. Gerry Fortin and John Frost
provided an educational forum for attendees and explored the Liberty
Seated and Barber coinage series by denomination and pitched the
value of joining national clubs for enhancing collector hobby
enjoyment. Many attendees were not LSCC or BCCS members but rather
type collectors who had an interesting in learning more about
specialized collecting of these series. After the regional meeting,
three individuals became new LSCC members verifying that smaller
show outreach is an important facet of new member recruitment.
Traffic at the display booths was brisk on Friday and Saturday.
The general public and Manchester Coin Expo dealers took the time
to review Gerry Fortin's Liberty Seated Dime collection certified
by PCGS and the well designed Barber and Seated coinage display
by John Frost. "Wows" became common place at both display
tables as visitors studied rare coinage items seldom seen at a
smaller regional show.
