Comments: A crude example from poorly engraved dies. By far the most common counterfeit seated dime in copper or brass type metal. Only one white metal coin seen as above with a different reverse die.

Reverse 102 and 101 Comparison

Chris Majtyka performed additional study of the 1861 101 and 102 reverse designs. His comments include, "while furthering my interest in the 1861 dime bogos, I discovered conclusive proof that the 102 white metal was definitely produced from a very similar but different die than the 101 copper per the above image comparison. While studying the wreath, I could find no positive differences between 1861 101 and 102 reverses, then it occured to me to study the letters. I believe the letters were individually punched into each die, and the differences are obvious. Most notable is the orientation of the M and E in DIME. The E looks to be placed in almost exactly the same place on both 101 and 102, but the M is much closer to the E on the white metal specimen. This is even more obvious when the joint of the ME in DIME is compared to the E in ONE."
